Hon. Speaker, Ms. Morakane Mosupyoe and members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature,
Mr. Peter Mabitsela, Founder and Director of Reamogetswe Khaya Disability and Outreach,
Distinguished guests, dear health experts, community residents and friends,
Good morning!
It is my great pleasure tojoin you today at Reamogetswe Khaya Disability and Outreach on Cerebral Palsy Awareness Walk and Wheelchair Donation Program.
I wish, first of all, to pay high tribute to Honorable Speaker and the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Reamogetswe Khaya Disability and Outreach, the community partners, and the health volunteers for your commitment to building inclusive communities that recognize, respect, and uphold the rights of persons with disabilities, strengthening community-based support systems, and improving the quality of their life.
Today’s event is another concrete action demonstrating the important partnership between government, healthcare providers, and civil society to empower underprivileged persons, families and communities. The Chinese Embassy and Consulate General take great pride in participating in this charity endeavor.
We live in an interconnected and interdependent society. As a Sesotho proverb goes, "Motho ke motho ka batho" (A person is a person because of other people). This spirit of Ubuntu “I am because you are” resonates with the virtue of “brotherhood of man” possessed by the Chinese people. The shared wisdom tells us: kindness towards others is like planting a seed and watering it every day. What you give away does not really leave you; it will always return to you in some way to enrich your life.
Today’s 25 wheelchairs donation to the elderly and disabled is one of the many charity projectsthe Chinese Embassy and Consulate General have been carrying out to the local communities. Each act, no matter how modest, is our way of saying: you are not alone.
Nelson Mandela once said, “A fundamental concern for others in our individual and community lives would go a long way in making the world the better place we so passionately dreamt of.” Chinese president Xi Jinping also said, “Barrier-free environment construction is a sign of civilization of a country and society.”
We firmly believe it is the responsibility of every member of society to care for and support the disadvantaged. We firmly believe by working together, we can create an equal and inclusive social environment for all.
Dear friends,
China and South Africa are far away in distance but our two countries and peoples enjoy a time-honored friendship featuring brotherhood plus comradery. We supported each other in the period of national liberation and independence. We help each other in time of difficulties. Under the guidance of our two presidents, China-South Africa All-Round Strategic Cooperative Partnership in the New Era has continued to deepen and strengthen, setting an example of China-Africa cooperation and South-South cooperation.
Facing a world today fraught with turbulence and challenges in particular, both countries hold the strong belief in solidarity and cooperation. The two countries are committed to achieving common prosperity and delivering more real and tangible results for our peoples. China will always be a trusted friend and partner of South Africa. Let us work together to build a higher-level China-South Africa community with a shared future!
Thank you!
