Consul General Tang Zhongdong met with Anju Ranjan, Consul General of India in Johannesburg

On 25 July 2022, Consul General Tang Zhongdong paid a visit to Anju Ranjan, Consul General of India in Johannesburg. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on topics including the protection of expatriates in South Africa and BRICS cooperation. 

Tang expressed concern over the impact of the deteriorating security situation on the safety and security of Chinese expatriates in South Africa. He expressed his intention to learn from the experience of Indian Consulate-General in consular protection and assistance. Ranjan said that the Indian expatriates in South Africa are also facing similar security issues and that the Indian Consulate-General would like to join hands with the Chinese Consulate-General to work with the local governments and police departments in strengthening the protection of foreign nationals.

They briefed each other on their countries’ trade relations with South Africa. Ranjan agreed with Tang that BRICS countries should work together and support each other to prepare for the BRICS summit next year.

Tang shared the latest on China’s economic development and Covid-19 control in the first half of this year. Tang also briefed the forthcoming 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
