Dear fellow Chinese and South African friends,

We bid farewell to an extraordinary 2021, the year of ox, and welcome a brand new 2022, the year of the tiger.  On behalf of all the staff from the Chinese Consulate General in Johannesburg, I would like to extend our warmest greetings and best wishes for the New Year.

2021 has been a year of exceptional significance for China.  We realized the first centenary goal, eradicated extreme poverty, solemnly celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and convened the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC. We set out on a new journey toward the Second Centenary Goal.  Under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, all Chinese people have been closely united, responding with composure to changes and a pandemic both unseen in a century and forging ahead without fear. Great achievements, which have won global recognition, have been made one after another.

Over the past year, coping with the third and fourth waves of the pandemic, the Chinese community, companies and students in our consular districts have worked hard with vigour, perseverance and solidarity, depite so many difficulties. You have shown your patriotic sentiments with concrete actions. We are grateful for your sincere support to this Consulate General.

Over the past year, this Consulate General wholeheartedly served our fellow Chinese in our consular districts by providing practical solutions and promoting using mobile phone APP to provide online consular services while still keeping the on-site services. When unrest and looting occurred in South Africa in July, we immediately activated our emergency response mechanism and issued warnings in various forms. We also have maintained close contacts with local government officials and parliamentarians at all levels in our consular district to promote solidarity against the pandemic.

In 2022, this Consulate General will adhere to putting people at the center, stay true to our original aspiration, keep our mission well in mind, and continue to try our best to provide consular services to our fellow Chinese. We hope the Chinese community make efforts to enhance China-South Africa friendship, protect health from the pandemic, work hard for a more successful career, and promote collaborations between China and South Africa to a new high.

The Year of the Tiger is approaching, I sincerely wish our great country and people all the best, wish a great success of Beijing Winter Olympic Games, and wish all of you a happy, healthy and auspicious new year!
